Autobahn Presentation Adler to Adolf Hitler- A. Buschelberger # 3163
For consideration and an advanced item is this very rare and direct presentation to Adolf Hitler from Julius Dorpmuller. A rare, original bronze sculpture of a stylized Reich Adler with a wheel in its talons. Mounted on top of a column of green veriegated marble and bearing two dedication plaques front and back for March, 21 1934. The front plaque reads " Dem ersten Arbeiter Deutschlands Adolf Hitler zur Erinnerung am 21 Marz 1934 " or " To the first worker of Germany in commemoration of 21 March 1934 " Bottom of the plaque bears the facsimile signature of the German Minister of Transportation Julius Dorpmuller. The statue was presented to Hitler on the dedication of of new Autobahn routes.
The reverse plaque is engraved with the map of Germany and each of the new routes engraved and the names of the cities added. The bronze eagle itself measures approx. 12 1/2 inches long and the overall height of the statue is approx. 22 inches. While the bronze itself is unsigned the artist is known to be Anton Buschelberger as it is catalogued and the piece was cast by the Kraas foundry in Berlin. The bird was cast in at least two sizes and the foundry stated in a letter that the model no longer exists. The letter and photo are attached and will translate that as time allows. Condition is excellent and in every way original. Original bronze for the era are more than scarce, direct presentations even more so and this has been cared for in an old collection for decades. Several links are attached below for the event and I am sure more can be had on the web or in the archives.
