Standing Grizzly Bear ( Stehender Bär ) Willy Zügel # 1212

Willy Zügel (1876-1950)

Willy Zügel was chiefly a porcelain modeler for Rosenthal, Nymphenburg, Hutschenreuther, and Allach.  He exhibited in the annual Haus der Deutschen Kunst salons throughout the war. His bronze works are scarce and rarely come on the market. This example is a 10 1/2" tall standing Grizzly Bear dating from about 1930.  It is signed in the bronze W. Zügel  München, and foundry marked Guss v. A. Brandstetter München.  The number 27 is hand-incised under the bronze base. Excellent original condition, showing only slight wear to the brown patina.
