Third Reich Sport Adler in Bronze- Barbara von Kalckreuth # 3133

This bronze eagle was presented by Reichssportsminister von Tschammer und Osten  in July of 1939 to the winner of the Modern Pentathlon, in an international competition, Germany vs. Sweden. The Swedes were promised a meeting with Hitler if they won the event. They did win, but the promised meeting with Hitler didn't take place. This rare bronze eagle measures just over 14" tall and 10" across the wing tips.  It is on its original variegated gray brown marble base, with a hand engraved brass presentation plaque attached to the face. It reads:Ehrenpreis des Reichssportfuehrers von Tschammer und Osten reichsoeffener moderner fuenfkampf Wuensdorf, 18-21 Juli 1939.
The bronze is in excellent condition showing only a few tiny losses to the marble base. The sculptor's name is incised in the bronze. Though it bears no foundry stamp, it is known to have been cast at the Hermann Noack foundry in Berlin.
