Walther Funk Presentation Cast Bronze Plaque- Josef Thorak # 3292
Offered here is a rare, one-of-a-kind presentation bronze relief plaque sculpted by favored German sculptor Josef Thorak in 1936. This example was a Christmas gift presented to Staatssekretaer Walther Funk. Walther Funk was an economist who was at that time State Secretary at the Reichs Ministry for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda, under Josef Goebbels. In 1938, Funk became Reichsminister of Economics, replacing Hjalmar Schacht. The bronze plaque measures 9 1/4" long and 5 3/8" wide. It weighs just over two pounds. The allegorical, neoclassical themes are of labor and German power. Beautifully cast with a dark chocolate brown patina. The inscription is cast in the bronze in raised letters. It shows very little wear and no damage to the metal. There are two small holes in the upper corners for hanging. A very rare Reich level gift by one of the most celebrated sculptors of the Nazi era.
