KPM Commemorative Porcelain Plaque- Boxed # 1709

KPM, established privately in the 1700's and still in business today is know best for their plaques and painted plaques.

Initially a private concern set up with the backing of Frederick the Great it floundered for some time and was taken over as a state concern early on and had several transitions since its inception. What has never changed is the quality and today it remains some of the finest and most desirable porcelain in the market place.

I have seen similar plaques over the years but cant recall seeing this one. It is a good sized piece and heavy, measuring 4 1/2 square and a 1/2 inch thick it is quite attractive with the front displaying a Germanic soldier with a laurel leaf surrounding his helmet and a central swastika. It was done in a number of about 100 or a 150 pieces at the turn of the years 1941 and 1942.

It is a boxed example and the box has seen better days but is intact for the most part and with survival rates for porcelain and fragiles being what they are for the war I cannot imagine there are too many of these around.

A very high quality piece that would make a nice accent for a collection and from one of the most prestigious porcelain manufacturers in Germany both then and now.
