Herman Goring Bronze Bust ( J. Rogge ) # 1702

Imposing bust of Luftwaffe Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring sculpted in 1939 by celebrated German sculptor Johannes Friedrich Rogge. This cast bronze bust measures 17" tall. It is clearly signed in the bronze on the back of the neck, J. ROGGE, and the edge of the mounting flange is stamped GUSS BRANDSTETTER München. It is mounted on its original variegated grey-green marble base which measures approximately 9 3/4" x 9 3/4" x 4" high, an overall height of 21". The condition is excellent and untouched, with all of the original dark chocolate brown patina intact. No scratches or dings to the metal. The marble base has a few minor chips along the bottom edge, but are scarcely noticeable. Casts of this model were commissioned for public buildings and military installations throughout Germany. Fine likeness and a very high-quality cast. Busts of Göring are much scarcer than Hitler, and finding one with its original base is very difficult today.

Dr. Johannes Friedrich Rogge (1898 - 1983) first studied sciences before dedicating himself to the fine arts from 1922 onwards. In spite of the critical acclaim he gained at the Berlin art exhibition he received no assignments and was forced to close his studio. His bust of Hitler 1938 brought his first success and was succeeded by further requests to make busts of Rosenberg, Ludendorff, Telschow, Hauptmann & Göring.
