Third Reich Railroad Eagle- Veteran Bringback 28 Inch
28 5/16" wide by 15 1/2" tall German box car eagle cast in aluminum alloy. The eagle was broken into three pieces and stabilized and restored by mounting it onto wood backing made 1" x 1/4" wood strips cut in the contour of the eagle. Verical strips were nailed onto those in order to reinforce the structure. It was then drilled in six places, threaded bolts inserted, and washers and nuts hold it together. The small, flat heads of the bolts were countersunk to sit right at the surface, which makes them almost unnoticeable. Despite the obvious damage, the eagle is quite complete, except for a hole under one wing. (see detail photos) Still, this is a solid, original vet bringback, and the repair is part of the history.
