Margarete (Boden) Himmler Silver/Bernstein Compact .835 # 3436

This piece was one that was acquired a long time ago and has been sitting in a collection almost 50 years. The collector obtained it from a jeweler in his network that knew he collected the material of WWII and obtained it from a veteran that bought it back who had retrieved it from Himmler's home. I tried to do some research to run it down but had no real luck, but I must say that I have never seen anything attributed to Margerete Himmler and most everything is to other women. The case itself is marked .835 and is very high quality measuring 2 3/4 inches across with a amber center bearing the initials of Margerete Himmler. I know this is a story and typically I avoid this kind of stuff but this is how it was done back in the day as well and items were traded with little documentation.

It is not a glamorous piece and is suitable for a woman of her stature and I would imagine an antique value in itself would be fairly good. Inside the compact is a paper that was placed inside by either the veteran or the jeweler at the time. I like the paper and the piece overall and its a nice piece. They did try and prosecute her at least a couple times for the crimes of her husband but found she was none the wiser in his activities and was written off as a modest country girl of sort. Her history is readily available on the web for anyone who wants to look at her. I do not know what this cost back in the day but probably not cheap and a nice piece for someone who appreciates it for what it is.
