Rare Adolf Hitler Bronze Bust 2x Life- (Ottmar Obermaier) 1883-1958 # 3557
Bronze Hitler busts have become very difficult to find, special examples even more so. Over the years I have had many nice examples and in the last year I acquired two double life examples, one from a veterans family being this Obermaier and a second from an auction. I have grown accustomed to have one around but do not really need two examples. A choice has to be made.
This pieces is special for a few reasons. The artisan is Ottmar Obermaier a creator and designer for "Porcelain Manufacture Allach" and their Fuhrerkopf Model #K8, probably the rarest model due to its manufacture of terra cotta. The Allach model is dated 1934 although the firm is not an entity till 1936. So it makes sense there was a bronze variant of earlier vintage, yet I can find no record, have never seen one and feel this may very well be the only example in private hands. It is derived from the veterans family and as the story go's a vet pulled this example from a library and off a pedestal from the hood of his Jeep. This may explain the small curvature of the flange for mounting. The veteran passed and his lady had the piece in her possession.
Ottmar Obermaier is a premier artisan who worked in sculpture and for several different porcelain factories and in bronze. Many of his works were displayed in the Haus der German Kunst. His most famous piece for military collectors is "Der Fechter" which was done in honor of SS Obergruppenführer und General der Polizei Reinhard Heydrich who was an avid fencer. Of course he is listed for many other works and there are 13 in HDK over the course of the Reich. In addition his Allach porcelain models, many of which were done in bisque and given the appearance of stone as used in centuries past.
This piece is in very fine condition with a beautiful medium patina and some handling but nothing serious. The flange does have a slight bend and I leave these things be here and in order to keep the piece steady on its pillar I added a couple strips of velcro until the right piece of marble presents itself. This is a very beautiful bust, its is extremely rare and may be one of a kind. I welcome any information and I did not contact the foundry and not sure if still in business but the family did say they had it researched and said a total of 4 were casted.
The bust measures 16 inches high, it is signed O. Obermaier 34 and foundry marked Preissbauer & Co Munich. Any questions can be directed to me via the site as well as any info that may be out there on the bust itself. Certainly investment grade.
