Third Reich Oil Painting- Bendix Passig (1864-1957) # 3406

Offered here is an original oil on canvas symbolist painting by Bendix Passig dated 1942.  It shows the artist's vision of a New Europe portrayed as a lovely young woman on horseback carrying an unknown flag, most likely representing a unified Europe, followed closely behind by Germania with the nazi flag which is placed highest and most central. She is followed by more riders carrying flags of various European countries, that by this time were either conquered or occupied by Germany. The group rides past an elderly man representing the Old Europe. Around him are broken cannons and strewn rifles. At right, three nude youths, one with a nazi pennant in hand. The painting measures 47 x 25 inches Approx.

Bendix Passig (* 5. Februar 1864 in Osterstedt, Schleswig-Holstein; † 19. Oktober 1957 ebenda)
After completing his studies, he started his own business as a freelance artist and opened a studio in Berlin. His main subjects were landscapes, especially the heath with animal representations, and floral still lifes. He also devoted himself to portrait painting. Other topics were taken from mythological and Christian areas. In 1899 he went on a trip to Switzerland and Italy to deepen his artistic ideas. Then Passig returned to Osterstedt on the Sandscharn. Although Passig was also heavily involved in astronomy and the care and rearing of horses, painting was his main field of activity.
