Hitler Youth Oil Painting- Werner Peiner (1897-1984) # 3407
Large expressionist portrait painting of an HJ pair in uniform, likely a brother and sister. It was painted on wood panel by Werner Peiner. Most likely painted in the 1930's. The panel measures approximately 26 3/8 x 33 7/8". The artist reused the panel to mount a landscape painting on canvas, probably painted after the war, which is signed in the lower left corner, PEINER. The canvas originally wrapped around the top and bottom edges of the board. Those edges were removed sometime later, leaving a line at top and bottom and possibly some painting in has been done. It displays extremely well, and would be even less conspicuous after framing.
Paintings from this period are rare, and this is a high quality portrait in an expressionist style by one of the most important artist/ designers of the Third Reich.
