Weitsprung- Ernst Seger (1868-1939)

Beautiful sculpture of a graceful, running woman by Ernst Seger created in 1930. Titled: "Weitsprung". This vintage cast bronze measures about 15" in overall height and about 13" across her arms. The bronze is in excellent condition and is still mounted on it original period, variegated black and white flecked marble base. It is undamaged, and the two-tone golden/dark brown patina is also completely present.
A full-size representation of this sculpture stood from 1933-40 on the forecourt of the Berlin beach baths at  Wannsee, and was melted in 1940 as a sacrifice to the German war effort. It was first introduced in the Munich Glaspalast exhibition in 1930 as exhibit No. 2356 with the title: "Läuferin am Ziel".
