SA Sports Trophy in Bronze- 1937

1st place award trophy for a Sturmabteilung (Storm Troops) National sports competition held in Berlin cast in bronze.

This award was originally issued in a fitted carrying case, which is not present. The trophy is made in two pieces, base and decorative two-sided high relief plaque, that are joined with two steel machine screws under the bronze base. The bronze itself measures 8 5/8" tall and 6 1/4" across the eagle's wings' A previous owner had a two-tiered marble base made for display which is included. This gives the piece an overall height of 11". The hollow bronze base sits over a fitted wood piece mounted to the marble. The piece is in excellent original condition with a beautiful unmolested chocolate brown patina.  There is dried latex adhesive under the base which will clean off.  The bronze is unsigned, but it is likely the work of Max Esser, who sculpted many awards for the SA and NSKK, These awards are extremely rare.
