Portrait Bust - Kurt Schmid Ehmen Estate

Offered here, from the estate of the artist,  is an original life size bust portrait in bronze by the preeminent German sculptor, Kurt Schmid-Ehmen.  In literature from the period, the bust is titled "Frau Helmerich", however in a 1991 exhibition commemorating the artist's 100th birthday, it was presented as "Mita".  The bronze itself measures approximately 12 1/2" tall, and it is mounted on its original variegated marble base which measures about 6 1/4" x 6 1/4" x 2 3/4" tall.  The bust is crisply signed Schmid-Ehmen on the neck, and the foundry mark of Priesmann Bauer & Co. is stamped into the back edge of the mounting flange.  One of the two photos shows the bust behind Schmid-Ehmen.  It is clear from the patterning in the marble that it is the very same piece. The second photo is a period studio photograph of the same work.  This is a rare bronze by one of the most important sculptors of the Third Reich era.
