Bronze Jungmädel W/Fahne- Edelgarde von Berge u. Herrendorf

This is a fairly large piece cast in bronze of the Jungmädel girl with flag, or Fahnentrager. The artist which I will come back to was Edelgarde von Berge u. Herren and easily found on the web. The girl measures approx. 12 3/4 inches high and depicts a youth girl with flag and signed E v B u H to the base. The German youth organizations are a topic in themselves and were essentially a politicized group broken into four parts dictated by age and by gender and would represent the future of the Reich. The boys started as DJ and were 8-12, followed by HJ who were 12-16. The girls JM or Jungmädel were 10-14 and the BDM girls were 14-18.

These are very nice pieces when encountered, generally they are not encountered all that often and much of the art and certainly political art of the era remains hidden in basements of museums out of site, or did not survive the war. The youth organizations are some of the most interesting to study and offer a comprehensive idea of the N.S ideology.
