Kaiser Wilhelm II Porcelain Plate~ Manuevers # 3122
This is a rare, pre-WWI, glazed soft porcelain, 8 5/8" plate made by Utzscheider and Co. at Sarrguemines, Lorraine, France in 1912. Interesting that is shows Kaiser Wilhelm II on horseback in full military uniform lighting a cigarette. The border is a deep cobalt blue with gold striping. The plate is titled on the back: Kaisermanöver I ~ Kings' exercises 1 or manuevers. Clear maker mark and decorator's initials, all under glaze. Also two impressed marks. It is uncertain whether this was done as an insult, or whether in earnest. In any case, it is a very fine quality plate in excellent condition. There is some tight glaze crazing, typical of these wares, but no cracks chips or repairs. A rare plate, 105 years old.
