Adolf Hitler Bust in Stone- HJ Pagels # 2019

Its been some time since I have had a nice bust let alone a Pagels. This is an interesting piece in that its a war time example done in a faux marble or stone due to war time limitations on metals usage and its pretty rare to find and most of these did not survive or were destroyed.

The bust is a life size example measuring 12 inches high and has an overall height of 15 inches including the base. The base is manufactured of turned wood and is by all appearances original to the piece. The model is identical in all aspects to its bronze counterpart and was manufactured by the foundry of Lauchhammer, signed and numbered with 237. I have had quite a few busts over the years and have always maintained a preference or a liking for the Pagels pieces and they are the most difficult to find along with the Wolff examples and account for the top 2 renditions of Adolf Hitler in my opinion.

A couple of things to note on this piece as I write it up for purposes of clarification. I am not known for my photography skills and its taken two weeks to get suitable photographs of this piece as the process of manufacture is different than its bronze brother as its made in two pieces. Once the piece was done it was seamed and the natural stone has aged while the material used to adjoin the two pieces has not and leaves a more prominent white joiner when viewed against the stone itself. This is proper and the seam is both flush with the piece and no spacing is present and is more subdued than the pictures depict. The only flaw to the piece is a rather shallow and chip to the right ear which is almost unnoticeable and does not detract. Its not visible in my photos and will see about getting a better photo of that.

While not bronze  this example is quite rare and elusive and fits well with the era of the 1000 year Reich where you have the use of materials such as stone and marble prominently in the architecture, propaganda pieces, and the aesthetics of the period in general. Its a very nice piece having all the gingerbread traits that people like being numbered, signed, and foundry marked. It is in all regards a tier one piece by one the premier artists in Germany from the pre-war period through the 3rd Reich and the new owner will no doubt be pleased.

The weight on this is approximately 24 pounds and shipping can be calculated based on the buyers location and inquiries are welcome should anyone have any questions.
