Although not the earliest cap, this one dates to about 1934/35 and is
most recognizable by shape and appearance The SS Visors are highly
sought after items and the "black caps" have particular appeal. The SS
was established in 1925 and fell under the control of the SA, the duties
of the SS were to be the protection of the party and Adolf Hitler and
it gained independence from the SA in late 1930. With the Night of long
knives or Rohm purge the SS would become one of the largest and most
notorious organizations in history under the leadership of Heinrich
Himmler.
