Tanzerin (Dancer) # 875
Nice figure of a dancing nude woman was sculpted in 1941. Beautifully modeled, the influence of Josef Thorak and Georg Kolbe is quite evident. The sculpture appears in every way a cast bronze, but it is actually cast zinc with a bronze patina. This was not done to save money, but to comply with wartime restrictions of metal usage. This sculpture was probably never cast in bronze. This piece stands just about 13" tall and is in excellent condition, with no damage or repairs. It retains all of its original dark patina. It is signed FAHRNER 1941. (**After September of 1939, bronze casting was illegal in Germany, all copper being needed for war materiel. A few sculptors with political clout still were able to get works cast, however.)
