Allach Ehrenpreis Variant (Early Glazed) # 658

Whether or not this plate was ever awarded is unknown. Based on the shape of this plate it would fall in line with the plates that were manufactured for 1937 competitions. The fact that it does not have a dedication or the standard lettering normally seen is unusual, and could have been made and never utilized, but not likely.

It may have been left as is, and either given as a gift or presentation in its ordinary form, or even sent to higher up's in the district in which the competitions would be held as a representative example of what the future award would look like prior to production of the awards themselves.

Whatever it is, with three known examples; the chances of an accidental blank plate is pretty unlikely in my opinion. The plate had a purpose. Whatever that purpose was, it is only the 2nd example I have seen and I am told of the third. I am applying the term "variant" based on more than two examples being observed, and the term "Ehrenpreis" based on that being it's most recognizable affiliation.
