SS Obergruppenfuhrer Richard Darre served from 1933-1942 as Reich Minister of Food and Agriculture. While the title may seem quite normal, his power within the SS and his ideology of Blood and Soil or Blut und Boden was key to the future of the Reich, and along with Weitel, Wiligut, and Himmler, his polices would shape the way of life for not only the SS man, but for the future of the German people.
His belief was that the future of the Nordic race and the German people was in the soil and that there was a mutual relationship between the land and the people that occupy it and cultivate it. This came to be know as Blut und Boden. Blood representing heritage or ancestry and Soil being the land.
