Bronze Icarus Dedicated 1925 ( Peter Breuer ) # 1113
A nice Icarus manufactured of solid bronze from 1925. Piece is a high
quality cast and is signed by the artist, foundry marked, and
dedicated. Three very nice attributes for a bronze.
Dedication
reads "Fur Teilnahme am-Sachsen-Rundflug 19 und 20. September 1925
Sachsongruppe des Deutschen Luftfahrt -Verbandes" and translates to "For
participation in the Saxon round (trip) flight 19 and 20 September."

Icarus a figure of
Greek mythology is a great subject and one of my favorites, while this
is a prewar example Icarus became the key figure that was utilized in
the NSFK or National Socialist Flieger Korp during the Third Reich.,
Icarus
and his father Daedalus attempted to escape from Crete with wings made
of wax, ignoring his fathers warnings Icarus flew too close to the sun
and with melted wings fell to the sea and to his death.
