Heroic Rider ( Hermann Joachim Pagels ) # 1033

Pagels who was responsible for many top notch Third Reich pieces most notably his Fuhrer busts, he was also notable for his "Chicken Thief" which stands today at the old Huhnerdermarkt or poultry market. The German folklore piece was also reproduced in bronze, and by the porcelain firm of Allach.

This example of what is commonly referred to as a heroic figure was done in 1919 and is a massive piece at about 17x17. While heroic figures can be common in the market in various form, this mounted figure is far and above one of the finest examples I have encountered if not the best.

Pagels style and renderings make him one of my personal favorites when it comes to bronze and porcelain.
