Willy Zügel (1876-1950)
Willy Zügel was chiefly a porcelain modeler for Rosenthal,
Nymphenburg, Hutschenreuther, and Allach. He exhibited in the annual Haus der
Deutschen Kunst salons throughout the war. His bronze works are scarce and
rarely come on the market. This example is a 10 1/2" tall standing Grizzly Bear
dating from about 1930. It is signed in the bronze W. Zügel München, and
foundry marked Guss v. A. Brandstetter München. The number 27 is hand-incised
under the bronze base. Excellent original condition, showing only slight wear to
the brown patina.
