Rudolph Hess Bust -Josef Thorak # 826
While most 3rd Reich busts that are encountered are of the Fuhrer,
pieces portraying high level party officials were commissioned on many
occasions but not often encountered. Rudolph Hess was such a party
official, and this piece would no doubt have been commissioned prior to
his 1942 flight to Scotland. What makes this pieces so special is not
only is a bust of Hess uncommon, but the artist that was commissioned to
style this piece was none other than Joesf Thorak. One of the most
highly regarded artists of the period and comparable in skill to Arno
Breker. Thorak has been noted to be Hitler's favorite artist.
The
piece itself is just outstanding in both the execution of the subject
and the condition of the piece. Hess is probably one of the most
recognizable figures of the period with very distinctive features. The
artist has captured these features in a manner that could only be
atttributed to an artist of this caliber. It is a stunning piece and
exceptionally rare.
This piece would no doubt please the most discriminating collector.
