SS Mein Kampf Wedding Cask # 1036
Reported to be a cask for a wedding edition of Mein Kampf these items were long ago labeled a " Wedding Cask ".
I
have no definitive proof that this is what it was for, but since the
market finds it most recognizable under that term, I will use it. A
wedding edition does fit quite nicely and with the sleeve even better,
and I did add that exact combination after receiving the cask.
I
do think this may have been some kind of remembrance piece to the
fallen, the underside of the lid with its clear picture frame style for
the photo of the person, and possibly his personal effects contained
within the cask. The "Wedding Scenario" has gotten so predominant that
one seller appears to have added a wedding photo to one example along
with a Mein Kampf. I believe that is horse shit personally, and having
seen some other casks for fallen soldiers, I am inclined to think its
probably a more likely scenario. Of course that is just my opinion.
The
seller stating to be the grandson of the veteran who bought the piece
back from a warehouse in Germany was unemployed and had no background in
such items, market being what it is and with one post to his credit the
sale went awkward and required split payments and phone calls which
then involved the son of the veteran with whom I spoke to as well to try
and secure the piece without getting robbed.
One of the most
interesting transactions when all was said and done, but the cask is
top notch and undamaged. I added the Mein Kampf and have the sleeve as
well and the piece will not disappoint.
